Brass Wires & Bass - New album by DJ Delay!!

I've been thinking for a while that I need some good new balkan stuff to post, since I've been fairly light on it lately and it's kind of one of the main original forces behind Untimely Sound (although the Untimely remit is basically World Music, meaning Music from the World rather than any kind of colonialist interpretation.. ) and lo and behold this morning Brian May aka DJ Delay - no, that's not that Brian May (at least I don't think it is!) - sent me a link to check out his new album - 'a remix album like no other that plumbs the depths and traditions of Eastern European music styles' all with a fairly healthy slab of dub, house and breaks.

Particularly awesome are his stripped down, dubbed out version of Boban Markovic's Voz and the electro-calypso wiggle given to Dunkelbunt's Kebab Konnektion. Also - and this is the highest praise possible from me - UHT's Sex Dub Jazz N Roll is turned into a slice of pure Monkey Island reggae-dub bliss. Specifically Monkey Island 2. In fact much of the album has a little Monkey Island sheen. (If you're mystified by this Monkey Island talk, check out my game music special from my radio show to hear me ranting about it)

Check out the album above and head to DJ Delay's website to pre-order your copy - the album comes out at the end of the month. Rockin
