Beautiful Game... Machinarium!

Hm long silence from me on this blog! Here's why: Machinarium. The most awesomely awesome game I've played in a long time... It has amazing music so I guess that's why I'm posting it here but basically I'm just all excited by it. It's just about an exact cross in terms of gameplay, style & narrative of classic 90s point & click graphic adventure Beneath a Steel Sky and Illegal Communication, a triumph of pure ludology from a few years back. But with better music, and the most beautiful hand drawn artwork (as BASS also had, but resolutions weren't quite so high then!)

Its about robots which is always a win with me: more than that, it's about a robot trying to find his place in the world! BEST THEME EVAR. For this reason it grabs me in the same way as Burial's music... I'm not going to explain that now though cos I've got another post on that in a couple of days.

Anyone who's been paying attention knows I love videogame music, as you can hear in my Lochbroom FM videogame special (warning! shaky presenting)... some of my favourite tunes are only my favourites because they remind me of a game from my youth. Machinarium steps up to the plate in this department with some amazing compositions from a dude named Tomas Dvorak, glitchy ambient atmospheres with some lovely real instrumentation in there too...

Here's a couple of tunes:

Gameboy Tune which is a jolly little Aphex Twin / mu-Ziq esque number...
and The Prison which is a much scarier dark ambient affair.

now go get the game!!
