Afro-E, Jethro Bagust and a psychedelic adventure...

Haven't added anything here for a while - we've just moved onto a boat and can't get internet where we're moored up at the moment. I'm grabbing 5 minutes at work to post this...

My big-haired homie from Bristol Afro-E posted a bunch of stuff on Soundcloud a while back and I've been checking it out. I love this one:

Afro-E - Do the Big Man

It's a real simple electro-step affair with acoustic sounding drums. The reverb drenched synth sounds take me back to a tiny little free party in the Peak District which some friends of mine put on in a tiny quarry, long overgrown, with old grindstones around the place, a deserted relic reclaimed by nature, Derbyshire Machu Picchu. I had one of the most amazing party experiences of my life there, more than just having a great time or feeling really good or just being really fucked, a kind of shamanic experience i guess... wandering off alone down the valley to wrestle with demons on a rock in the middle of a river, defeating them and heading singlemindedly up the hill as it got light towards a distant rocky outcrop which was just unquestionably my destination. Getting there, climbing it, sitting on it whilst the landscape rushed into me, through me, endlessly, energising me... and so energised, returning to the party to find Jethro Bagust at the decks and his tunes reverberating around the little quarry, sitting against one rock face witht the other looming over, benevolent, an Inca goddess...

Awesome.

Jethro Bagust - Pian

So yeah! Thanks to Jethro for helping imprint that memory and to Afro-E for dredging it up. You guys rock!
