NEW SEEED TUNE: MOLOTOV! FREE DOWNLOAD!

Holy crap! New Seeed stuff for the first time in like 7 years!!! This is officially the most exciting day evar! Got a real live band feel to it, with frenetic drumming and a massive guitar & horn riff. Peter Fox has definitely also fed some of his solo project into the Seeed sound which is an excellent plan. Quite a change from Seeed's usual style but what better way to return after such a massive break... boom!

riddim of the week... Water Pumpin Riddim!

had to check this one out in case it had anything to do with Seeed's Waterpumpee, which was their original voicing (with Anthony B) of their Doctor's Darling riddim, which gave us the massive hit Tanya Stephens - It's a Pity. Especially as one of the voicings comes from Gentleman, suggesting a German connection...

Well it's not anything to do with Waterpumpee, but it's still pretty great, and it is a reworking of another old riddim, and it's really bugging me that I can't figure out what it is... I'm thinking it's from a Big Youth song which I only have on vinyl, and all my vinyl is packed away in an attic at the moment. I love the endless reworking and self-referencing in reggae (or rather the overt reworking & self referencing, because of course that's the basis of all music) but man it bugs me when I can't figure out what the reference is...

Peter Fox Live DVD drops next week!!!

I've mentioned it before: i totally love everything Peter Fox does.

So I'm very excited by this:

Bani Silva & Peter Fox!

Peter Fox is basically my hero... I don't think I've ever managed to do a set or record a mix without playing a tune from his band Seeed or one of his solo efforts. Not only is he a great MC (although - according to a native german speaker - not lyrically, but I can't understand the majority of what he's actually saying, and in terms of delivery he's spot on) but an amazing producer as well, behind a bunch of Seeed's best work - Doctor's Darling riddim anyone? y'know... Tanya Stephens - It's a Pity... yeah that was him! Who'd have thought one of the biggest riddims of the decade was German??
