Check out Sound Of Bastard for a uniquely crusty / teknival / traveller take on Global Bass...
This is amazing, freeparty moombahskank with vocals from the Bastard himself, conjuring up a familiar experience to anyone who's ever been part of the free party scene (with lyrics written way back in 2001 at the Dragon)
& this too, kind of slowed-down-hardtek with balkan/middle eastern melodies:
Loads more amazing stuff on his Soundcloud: Sound Of Bastard
Huge new EP from Think2wice. Obviously, it's Jon Kwest, the whole EP bangs - but let's focus in on the Gulls remix here: Gulls isn't a well known name in Moombah circles, because he's someone truly pushing boundaries and not really part of any specific genre, and so this remix could easily be overlooked (see Walmer: "Not only do Jon Kwest’s original tunes sound dope as fuck where you gizz your pants but you got fucking Jay Fucking Fay, Guapo Fucking Feo, Tactic and then some motherfucker named Gulls who we never heard of before"). Gulls reins in his minimal transnational futurist sound, squeezing it into a moombah box which it's constantly pulsing at the edges of and threatening to ooze out. OK, we're only 18 days in, but this is my Moombah of the Year so far.

Out this week, the latest installment in the Generation Bass moombah EP series, this time from Balkan electro kings Shazalakazoo. Balkan music is a natural bedfellow for Moombahton - Balkan club tunes have been hovering around 100bpm dembow territory for years. Shazalakazoo are the perfect guys to push the combination forward - as a pair they've been at the forefront of electronic Balkan music for the last 5 years or so, without relying on the same tired old brass samples, and of course on his own Neki Stranac, one half of Shazalakazoo, is one of the biggest names in the Moombahton scene.
With this EP Shazalakazoo bring us 4 solid original moombalkan bangers. Title track Bang! deftly twists Balkan brass into Dutch pitchbending, and is probably the stand out tune of the set. Balkan sounds aren't all that's thrown into the Moombah mix here though; MC Gi lends some Baile Funk style vocals to Danca Do Facao, whilst Neki's Tune follows a more straight up Moombahton template. Rojo Rubi, with vocals from MishMish, sticks fairly close to a pre-Moombah Balkan sound - this is basically vintage Shazalakazoo, with a few extra synth stabs & pitch bends thrown in - an excellent vehicle to take you from the Balkans to Moombahland.
On remix duties: SaBBo puts Danca Do Facao through his Deepaton filter (grab this one below) and Bert On Beats pitches Bang! up into Kuduro territory to fairly devastating effect.

In case you've been wondering (and I'm sure it keeps you awake at night), "is it possible to make Gabba sexy?", La Muerta (whose true identity is a closely guarded secret*) has dropped this free album crossbreeding it with moombahton which provides the definitive answer: SORT OF. I mean, massively distorted gabba kicks are probably only ever going to moisten the most masochistic of panties, but at the same time even when being sonically bludgeoned it's almost impossible for the hips to resist a dembow at this tempo. This is wicked stuff, by far the most ballsy take on moombah I've heard.

Tribe Called Red present 5 moombah reinterpretations of classic hip hop joints (including Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy & more). Kind of like a much more digestable version of Jon Kwest's Moombah Marauders Native Tongues remix project which I couldn't actually get all the way through (love Native Tongues, nice idea, too much of it). Don't Sweat The Technique is my personal favourite.

Cripes: 2 mixes from me in 2 weeks, that's got to be a record. This time around it's global bass with the focus shifted away from the organic and traditional to the futuristic and digital. Well mostly. A Moombah-Afro-Kwaito-Funky-Grimey-Kudurave adventure.

Man, I've been sleeping on this, time sure does fly... Out this week, SaBBo's new EP. Once again Generation Bass taking things next level. This EP truly delivers on the promise of the title - some serious deepness here. Opener 'Rubbin they Tits' has drums which don't hit hard but brush over you in a delicious afterhours manner, and when the Dutch synth comes in its altogether subtler than we have come to expect from the genre. Stand out tune for me is I'm Ready with it's Kraftwerkesque arp and Dutch bleeps which strongly recall Firepower. It's these deeper explorations which are starting to fill out the genre into something that feels like it's going somewhere, now the groundwork has been laid down by the big, dancefloor destroying tunes & re-edits.

Heartbreak gave away the stems to his Moombah classic Blaze Up the other day and you know I had to hop on that bandwagon... so here's my remix. I figured everyone was gonna do a moombah mix so I went off on a bit of a random one:
