As promised those 2 tunes from the other day have been taken down again... But here's a brand new one from me on a cutesy dancehall ting. Streaming only for now, EP coming soon!

According to Get Mziki, the lyrics here are about being a lesbian (not that I can understand them, apart from nina bra na ma nipples) which is pretty unusual subject matter for both a dancehall style song and for an urban African song... but aside from any sociological discussions that might raise, this tune is pure fyah, this girl's flow is spot on... like one comment on Get Mziki says, the way she pronounces the 'T' in Tokelezea is amazing, which is a weird thing to be amazing?

New riddim from one of my favourite labels: Germaican Records. The Question riddim is a reworking of one of the most classic riddims ever, can't claim to know the history of it but it's one that pops up throughout the history of reggae... Dr Ring Ding's voicing, Polish Vodka, is typically silly but it's the highlight of the riddim for me with it's happy-and-you-know-it mash up. The Las Balkanieras voicing is a bit dissapointing for me as I was expecting their vocal to sound a little, well, Balkan.

So I was in Falmouth on Saturday night for some dancefloor-destroying action at Skank n Stomp... here's my set recorded live on the night

Tracklist follows...
Caballo over at Generation Bass posted this free album of cumbia / dancehall mashups from Mykol Orthodox which is all pretty awesome but I picked up on this tune particularly, featuring yet another incarnation of that bassline from the Computa Riddim which I posted a while ago. The bassline odessey continues!

Well, it's not really of the week, since it's been a while since the last Riddim of the Week. In fact this is going to be the last one for now, so I'm going back in time a few years to one of my all time favourite riddims: Birchill's Limbo Riddim!
Birchill - Limbo Riddim. (sorry, vinyl rip using a fairly sub standard turntable...)
First heard this at St Pauls Carnival a few years ago when we turned a corner to be blasted by Elephant Man's voicing (also called Limbo) over this crazy futuristic insistent beat, and it's one of the tunes that's been in my head ever since.

Been quiet on here from me in the last couple of weeks, all sorts of Real Life things occuring, but here's something awesome to make up for it... I covered Opa Novy God's awesome free album Original Goods a little while back, well here's the first of a couple of remixes I'm doing for them, on a carnivalesque balkan house tip with a little dancehall shuffle thrown in too...

This weeks riddim of the week (well ok since I missed last week, riddim of the fortnight) from Massive B contains one of the most classic basslines in history...
Massive B - 210 Computa Riddim
Don't know where that bassline came from originally but it's been reused approximatley a squillion times, always to devastating effect... here's a couple of examples that spring to mind:
heavy heavy roots: kenny knots / bush chemists - good sensimiella
classic classic rave: SL2 - Way in my Brain

There's some good pop music around at the moment! Well there always is really, among the endless churning out of tripe (which I think is probably necessary to turn up the gems) but there's at least two tracks around at the moment which are totally rockin, the first being Tinie Tempah's Pass Out which I correctly predicted would be huuuuuge (at this point I'm retiring from the chart predicitons business with a 100% success rate). The second is Rude Boy by Rihanna - I've never been a fan of her previous stuff but that hook is just pure wickedness. Seems like everyone and his dog has done a remix (my dog is in the studio right now) - here's a little selection:
Heavy dancehall / reggaeton grind: Rihanna & Agent Sasco - Rude Boy Remix (usershare link). I think Agent Sasco replies "like a bus" to Rihanna's "is you big enough?" - that's pretty big
Bleepy IDMesque dancehall: Rihanna - Rude Boy - Murlo Remix (via Palms Out
More after the jump...
